Useful Details Concerning Healthy Weight Loss

By Eve Anderson

The problem of obesity and overweight is widespread in our society today. These problems are as a result of lifestyle change since many individuals nowadays consume a lot of fatty foods with great salt intake. Also such individuals do not work a lot and thus the fats just build up in their bodies. When in such situations, persons may develop certain life threatening conditions. They must therefore undergo a healthy weight loss program avoid this.

Losing weight is good but doing it in a healthy way is far much important even if it is a slow process. There are some people who usually want to take shortcuts in this whole process and decide to go for crash diets, advertised supplements and even meal skipping techniques. Such methods are not advisable because an individual will easily gain back the pounds lost after the process or far worse develop some disorders.

Therefore learning on these healthy tips will go a long way in helping people have a successful weight loss. The first aspect to a healthy program is nutrition. An individual should have a balanced diet composed of the five different food groups namely; vitamins, carbohydrates, fats, proteins and minerals. Getting into crash diets meal skipping should never be an option.

As much as one wants to shed off the extra pounds, the individual will still need food for growth, energy and nutrition. Therefore proteins are useful to ensure that the individual grows normally. There are two sources of proteins; animal and plant source. Usually persons in such a program will be required to consume more of the plant protein but if meat is to be consumed it has to be white meat.

Carbohydrates are the great source of energy followed by fats. They should also be from good sources, prepared in healthy ways and consumed in appropriate amounts. As for fats, they are essential but their source matters. It is advisable that people avoid going for fat sources from manufactured foods but go for fruits and vegetable source of fats.

With a balanced diet in place, care should be taken not to over eat. One should aim to eat just enough of each food group. Aspect number two in this fit weight loss program is physical exercises. It is advised that a person in the program engages in activities like jogging, walking, rope skipping, stair climbing, and gym workouts among other activities. This is so as to burn down the calories gained from food to ensure they do not accumulate on particular parts of the body.

Persons should however ensure to pick that exercise they can easily perform daily without straining themselves. The activity should also be carried out in sufficient time to ensure that it is effective in burning down the calories. After exercising the individual should ensure to get enough rest so that his muscles relax and heal in case of any strain. Plenty of water should also be taken during such times to avoid being dehydrated.

In conclusion, a healthy weight loss program entails two main things; a balanced diet and physical exercises. Many people may perceive these measures as slow and not working. But when they are adhered strictly they produce the desired results. Care should be taken however not to fall back to the unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle after a successful loss.

Hypothyroid & Weight Loss

By Dr. Kevin Dobrzynski

Hypothyroid Weight loss is a common problem for many people, especially those with hypothyroidism. If you have tried every diet out there but nothing worked for you, your thyroid is at fault.

At least 27 million people in the US suffer from thyroid conditions, and many of them go undiagnosed. Hypothyroidism is the most common form where your thyroid glands are underactive. This condition does not just affect people from the US, but people from other developing countries can also experience thyroid issues.

When you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism, it means your metabolic system is not functioning as it should be. Losing weight will be a constant battle. To make things worse, low-calorie foods may also worsen your condition by slowing down your metabolic rate.

Here's the real problem...

You may either be misdiagnosed or undiagnosed. Even if you are experiencing all the symptoms of this disorder, your doctor may not successfully detect the problem.

One of the reasons why the diagnosis of hypothyroidism is often missed is due to it's many symptoms. Hypothyroidism affects every system of the human body.

The other reason why this condition goes undiagnosed is that blood testing is often inconclusive. The main blood test used to diagnose hypothyroidism, called the TSH test, can miss cases of hypothyroidism up to 80% of the time.

If you believe you have a thyroid problem, you must act on it right away!

The best way to start is by monitoring your symptoms. Get a journal and mark your symptoms on a scale of 0= not applicable 1= mild 2= not severe 3= severe, and make sure you keep this going for at least one week. It is recommended that you date all the entries and keep the journal for up to one month.

The next step is to perform a body thermometer test at home. This is one of the easiest ways to see how low your metabolism is.

Place a thermometer by your bedside the night before the test. First thing in the morning, even before you get out of bed, place a thermometer under your armpit for ten minutes without moving. Any movement will throw off the accuracy of the test.

Measure your body temperature for three consecutive days. If you're a female and menstruating, do the test on the second and third day of your period. Also, be aware if you have any current infections because this can make the test inaccurate.

Normal readings should be between 97.8 to 98.2. If the reading is below this point, you have a thyroid disorder. Your weight loss battle will continue until your body temperature and metabolism rate become normal again.

Present your symptoms checklist and your basal body temperature test to your endocrinologist. Endocrinologists specialize in hormones and are much more knowledgeable about thyroid conditions than regular doctors.

Hypothyroid weight loss battles go hand in hand, so if you think you have a problem and your doctor has misdiagnosed you, don't give up. See a specialist doctor today who will look into your disorder further.

Weight Height Chart - Free Tools And Calculators

By Sam Jones

I am posting this article in response to a FAQ from my website. Many people are asking how they know if by being overweight they are putting their health at risk and what is being overweight? This got me looking into BMI, body Mass Index and the healthy weight chart.

When using the healthy weight chart as a means to determine if we are overweight we need to remember that this is a very broad and simplistic method.

There are several names for the healthy weight chart, some refer to it as the height weight chart but is essentially the same thing.

Let me explain. These two tools are used as a basis for the calculation of the well known BMI measurement system for measuring Body Mass Index.

In recent times many people have questioned the accuracy of such a system that is based on such generalised personal information as height and weight and is constructed using comparative data that dates back 40 years.

The problem is that some people especially those who are taller than the average person, can be given a false sense of security when using the height weight chart as a measure of healthy weight.

The healthy weight of an individual can vary and the height weight chart is intended to be used as a guideline to determine if a man or woman is in the healthy weight range.

The healthy weight range system is a collection of data from many thousands of people worldwide and is designed using an average of many different people's data.

Because the height weight chart is predicated on data from so many people it is usually fairly accurate and gives you an idea of where you fit in a wide band range of healthy weight.

The real question though is, if the height weight chart can be relied upon?

In some cases the results for certain individuals when using these methods proved to be wrong.

We found that a taller than average man who was considered to be in the healthy weight range had developed some liver function problems.

When fat is accumulated in the middle abdominal area it can increase the probability of fatty liver disease.

Men with an abdominal circumference of above 40 inches who are over 6 feet tall could be mislead as they may be considered in the overweight but not at risk category according to their BMI using the healthy weight chart.

To sum up: Due to known inaccuracies of the measurement systems for height to weight ratio, more doctors have now updated their advice to patients to be aware that carrying weight around the middle part of your body can put you at increased risk of diseases.
