Trends Relating To Botox

By Ariel Mernal

Botox injections are nowadays popular as a 'quick fix' solution to younger looking skin. Its cosmetic applications have advanced significantly over the last few years, with more and more people now looking to undergo botox injections with the hope of getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles. Botox may have been considered to be a procedure that would come and go, however the skeptics now see that this is not true, it's going to be around for a while.

Celebrity gossip programs on TV talk about botox injections every day, speculating on which celebrities have had the procedure. A lot of people are wondering why this has become so increasingly mainstream in recent years.

It's actually pretty easy to understand why. Botox is a cheap and effective solution to ageing skin. It's a fast treatment, there are no scars which can happen from plastic surgery, and it is pretty easy on the bank account. More and more people have realized this now, thanks to all the publicity botox treatments receive through celebrity use.

Botox for men?

Many people think that botox is only something that women are interested in, but this is not true. The facts show something else, entirely. Women are still more likely to get botox than men, but it is becoming more widely accepted for men to receive the treatments as well. There are those in the media who have coined the term 'bro-tox'. In some areas, men are accounting for about half of the botox injections that they administer.

Changing trends

The fact is, botox usage is going up. In one year, 2010 to 2011, it went up from 5.4 million, to 5.7 million botox patients, so it went up 5% in that year alone. Newer estimates suggest an annual rise of around 10% every year. This rising trend should come as no surprise. There used to be those in society that looked down upon people who have botox treatments, and it was thought to only be done by the richest people, but this is no longer the case, and it is becoming widely accepted by people of all classes and economic situations. It has now become a well recognized and widely accepted surgical procedure.

There is more than this though. Botox's applications have advanced from just cosmetic use to management of a variety of clinical conditions that cause muscle spasticity. Some of these conditions include blepharospasm, spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy in both children and adults. There have been multiple reports of these treatments showing significant benefits for patients. Migraines have been known to be reduced using scalp injections of botox, as well as excessive sweating and other issues.

There is no doubt that the future is bright for botox. Advancements are constantly being made, and at this time the future prospects are looking quite grand.
