Gymnastics in Delaware involves a lot of physical and vigorous exercises that entails the use of agility, power, flexibility, power, coordination and balance; it is regarded as a type of sport worldwide. The sport has been divided to include different categories totaling seven in number; acrobatics, trampoline, group, tumbling, men artistic and women artistic gymnastics. However, to take part in Olympics one must be above sixteen years of age. Men competition is more intense that the female one. Males may start young to practice this sport, but not as young as women because boys need to reach puberty in order to develop the strength required. The age required for one to become a professional who can participate in an Olympics event is the same as the age required in the female event; sixteen. Male participants compete in six events.
Leaps, jumps, tosses and many other exercises using various apparatus are performed in the rhythmic category. Elements of ballet, dance and manipulation are incorporated. Apparatus used are hoops, ropes, ribbons and balls. This gymnastic event is limited to women only and they can participate as individuals or in groups.
Trampoline is an event for both men and women. Athletes are required to take part in high-flying flips on each bounce, also there are some compulsory performances required for each participant. At advanced stages the athletes may perform in pairs at the same time and in synchronized fashion.
Tumbling is not an Olympic event yet, but it is performed international. The athletes in this category perform on a spring board that bounces. Here participants are needed to do very complicated twists and flips because of the bouncing surface. It is compulsory for athletes to perform two passes at each stage with eight elements included in every pass.
Acrobatics is considered to be a very unique event. Here, participates are regarded as the equipment and can perform in pairs of twos or fours. Different styles are involved and they include handstands, balances and holding hands. Pairing is not determined by the kind of gender. It can be all men, all women or mixed gender.
Team gym is the same as group gymnastics in Delaware and comprises of six to sixteen participants. Similar to acrobatics the groups can be of the same gender or mixed. Tumbling, mini-trampoline, vault and floor exercises are allowed in this event. Despite being an interesting local and international event performers cannot do this event in an Olympics since it is not included. However, in future this events may be included as part of the Olympics.
